You'll find diagrams and descriptions in Apprentice to a Garden , but no photos. If you'd like to test your imagination against reality, here are a few photos of the garden during the time described in the book.

Front Patio
The front patio was built by hand using tabletop-sized MN Yellow limestone. Read how the author (with much help, mishaps, sweat, and grumbling) did it in the "Our Garden Rocks" chapter. Was it worth the effort? You be the judge!

Side Yard Secret Garden
Converted from a weedy, poorly drained lawn, this side path makes a soothing and delightful transition from the lively front garden to the backyard Haven. What is that wooden contraption? What's with the ropes? You'll find out in the "Skeleton Rising" chapter.

View Out to Street
From the Woodland Clearing, a heady variety of foliage nearly obscures the view of the street. These edging bricks prompted the musings in the "Nature Includes Humans" chapter.
